Staff Spotlight - Sharm Parmar

I joined Baily Garner (Health & Safety) Ltd in January 2022 as a graduate Health & Safety / CDM Advisor, with a NEBOSH National General Certificate and 6 years of being a time served installation electrician behind me. My previous health and safety experience was working in the TV & Film industry as a H&S consultant and a couple of years starting out in the industry with a global facilities management company. Both of which put me in good stead for the role I am currently in.

I have recently been promoted from a graduate Health &Safety / CDM advisor, to a fully qualified Health & Safety / CDM Advisor role, which could not have been done without the support and tutelage of my team leader Mel Smith and Senior Project Co‑ordinator & Business Support Karina Carvey.

For me this is a massive step up and personal triumph bringing with it new levels of responsibilities of which I am currently loving getting stuck in to.

As a Health & Safety / CDM Advisor, I work closely with Mel to help core Clients and Contractors fulfil their duties by providing a high quality service with a personable approach, as well as guide new Clients with their responsibilities under CDM regulations.

Small and big wins in this role come in the way of productive site inspections where Client and Contractors have heeded our advice/observations, put corrective measures in place and help to create and sustain a positive safety culture amongst their workforce.

Next steps for me are working on larger projects in different construction environments which I believe will generate a better all round knowledge of this exciting and hugely diverse industry.
