Asbestos management

Managing asbestos within your building, and the risks involved, can be complex and many companies require expert support. We work in partnership with an experienced and specialist asbestos management company to bring you the best possible advice.

Those who manage non-domestic premises are responsible for protecting the people who work in or use those premises, from the risks to ill health that exposure to asbestos causes. Such premises include all industrial, commercial or public buildings such as factories, warehouses, offices, shops, hospitals and schools.

Non-domestic premises also include 'common' areas of certain domestic premises, such as purpose-built flats or houses converted into flats. The common areas of such domestic premises might include foyers, corridors, lifts and lift-shafts, staircases, roof spaces, gardens, yards, outhouses and garages. (They would not include the flat itself, nor rooms within a private residence that are shared by more than one household such as bathrooms, kitchens etc in shared houses and communal dining rooms and lounges in sheltered accommodation.

Baily Garner Health & Safety can support you in the three key steps to compliance under Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006. These are:

  • Find out whether your premises contain asbestos and, if so, where it is and what condition it is in
  • Assess the risk
  • Make a plan to manage the risk
